Spaces as a learning tool
• Lecturer drop in help • Tutor rooms • Live questions during lecture •Student study groups
Tutors:
Spaces allows tutors to reach a larger audience by providing help sessions online, which can be accessed by students from anywhere. This is especially beneficial for students who may not be able to attend in-person sessions due to scheduling conflicts or other reasons. Furthermore, the text-based format of the app allows for easy and direct communication between tutors and students. Students can ask questions and receive answers in real-time, creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students. This is particularly useful for students who may not feel comfortable asking questions in person.
Live questions during lecture:
In a lecture theatre, students have access to a dynamic and interactive learning experience. Two screens are provided, one displaying the lecture content, and the other running a Wavie Space that enables students to ask questions and participate in discussions during the class. Which can be answered by the lecturer in real-time. In the last five minutes of the class, time can be allocated to answer any questions in the space.

Student study groups:
If I'm a student taking stats101, I can host a private room with some classmates that can be password protected. In this space I can discuss the assignment coming up in a safe environment. One which doesn't show my personal photos or newsfeed like Facebook. Class reps can also make spaces for their fellow classmates to drop questions which the lecturer is also able to join. Again, without any personal photos or information of the lecturer being available like previous platforms.
Safe Spaces
Student safety is always the main priority. There are a few ways by which we can maximise this. It is important to bear in mind that only students from your university can interact with your spaces. Students can only make one account each. This is a massive reason why this is much more safe than other platforms. Students can't make a fake account to pretend to be a student or someone else, they can't make a fake account to bully someone. That account is directly tied to their university email. With groups/clubs on Facebook or Instagram these are all serious issues.
Members Only
Moderation Tools
Members Only:
Spaces can be set to members only, which means that only authorized members of a space can make posts. For example, in a football club, members can post about practice times, weather updates, or upcoming events. If a rugby player dislikes football and there is tension between the clubs, they would be unable to spam or bully football players in the club, as they are unable to post.
Moderation Tools:
Muting
Users can be muted in a space. If there is someone being disruptive, they can be muted and will be unable to post anything in the space.
Reporting
Users and/or spaces can be reported. There is a very visible report button on every page to ensure the platform is not being abused.
Private by default
Students can only make private spaces. Clubs or organisations need to apply to be listed on the featured page.
Chat Mod
Public spaces by default have chat moderation as compulsory which will filter profanity.
